Grandma's Wrap Update

I'm still working on the Duxbury Point Wrap for my mom. It's going well, but still going slow. In the meantime, I've finished up a couple of knitting projects as well as gotten some sewing done. Everything gets put on hold this afternoon at 3pm, though. Why? Because Iron Knitter2 Round 2 will start then!

Mom's Got A New Wallet

First of all, it's my anniversary today with my husband Dustin. We've been married for 18 years! Secondly, I finished a pair of socks today. I made them for a Ravelry competition called The Iron Knitter 2. The socks are for Round 1 of the competition. I really like how the socks turned out. Since I was feeling so creative and productive, I finished a project that's been sitting on the sewing machine for a couple of weeks now. It's a wallet. My old wallet was falling apart and I found an awesome tutorial for making a wallet at Confessions of a Fabricaholic. The tutorial is fun, with step-by-step instructions and pictures. Most importantly, it turned out great and now I've got a new wallet!

Six Sock September

There's a new group on Ravelry named Six Sock September. It's a challenge to knitters (and crocheters!) to make 6 socks during the month of September. I'm in! Since it usually takes me a week to ten days to make a pair of socks, I think I can handle this. As an added bonus, it will help me start my Christmas knitting early! Right now I'm working on the Duxbury Point Wrap for my mom that I started in about April, but it's cabled and very time-consuming. I've been doing a dozen rows a week but for the past week or so I've been trying to get more done. I can average 10-15 rows a day, which may not sound like a lot, but the wrap has over 500 rows and I'm just past row 200. It will be GORGEOUS when finished, though!

Vexing Dr. Who Socks

So I've been trying to knit a pair of socks. It just wasn't happening. I double checked it all-measurements, gauge, pattern. Three times I made these socks and they came out too small. They wouldn't fit over the foot and heel. So these socks have been vexing me because I don't know what went wrong. Whatever it was, it's fixed now. One sock is done! And it fits! I'm working on the second sock now but all indications are that it will fit too. And then these vexing Dr. Who socks will be done and ready for the recipient!

Ravelry and mysewingcircle

I just had to make a special post about two of my favorite social networking sites, Ravelry.com and mysewingcircle.com. Both of these websites are made for people to share their crafts and their personalities with others. If you haven't checked them out yet, take a look! You may get hooked!

Doctor Who Scarf

So I am making a Doctor Who scarf for my oldest son's girlfriend. It's a birthday gift and her birthday is in 5 more days. Can I get it done? I doubt it but I'm working hard anyways. We'll see how much I can get done by her birthday. At least it's something that I can knit while watching tv, surfing the web, and checking out Ravelry and Facebook. I can even knit the scarf while blogging! I started the scarf on Friday afternoon and it's Sunday afternoon right now so here's how much I've gotten done:

Well, I'd better continue working on the scarf. Wish me luck!

Nautical Blanket

Ok so it's been quite a while since my last post. I've been busy with knitting and with life. On the needles right now I have a pair of socks that are almost done, a shawl that is just starting, and a squares for a blanket that have a long way to go. The squares are great because it's mostly stockinette stitch so I can do other things while I'm knitting. I'm making the Nautical Blanket from Knit Picks and I'm really liking it. Each square goes by quickly and they're very portable.
I can't believe the end of the school year is almost here! My oldest son will be a junior next year and my youngest son will be in 7th grade. They are growing so fast!

Snow Day

So the boys got a snow day! It snowed a little here in Atlanta, but the problem was the ice on the roads. The boys were just thrilled to have a day off from school!

It's been a great new year so far. I've been exercising more, decorating cakes, and knitting and crocheting. I've been finishing some knitting projects that were on hold during the holidays. I finally made a cardigan for myself, along with some fingerless gloves and a knitting bag. Both for me! It's kind of fun to make things for myself sometimes, although I love knitting for others.

So what's next? Maybe a vest or tank top-for me! Of course, I'll have to fit in knitting for my nieces in there too...maybe some scarves or mittens for them.
